Fun Things To Do Around Lake Martin in the Fall

Lake Martin, located in Alexander City, AL,  is a beautiful place to explore in the fall. With the autumn colors creating a picturesque setting, it’s the perfect place for you to enjoy your favorite autumn activities. There are a few extra special activities that you can only find do here at Lake Martin and we are here to tell you about them.

Stay at Mistletoe Bough B&B

A stay at Mistletoe Bough Bed and Breakfast (Est. 1895) is a very unique experience. We have 5 equally beautiful but uniquely designed rooms and can sleep up to 12 guests. The Master Suite is our personal favorite room, so be sure to check it out when you visit our website. The Christmas season comes quick at Mistletoe as well, so if you plan your stay for mid November all the way through January, you’ll most likely be walking into a Christmas Wonderland. If you’ve ever wanted to be in a Hallmark Movie, this is your chance to feel like a character in your favorite Hallmark Christmas Movie.

Lake Martin is a lake controlled by Alabama Power and the level of the lake is lower in the fall and winter months than during the spring and summer months. However, that won’t stop us from taking you on a gorgeous sunset cruise in the main channel. We leave from River North Marina 2.5 hours prior to sunset with a specially curated charcuterie box and a bottle of wine. The fall air, the changing color on the leaves, and the romantic sunsets that fall provides are the only reasons you need to add this experience to your stay at Mistletoe Bough.

Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trails

My friend Brandy Hastings blogged about these trails a while back, so I’m going to link her blogpost here. As she states, these trails offer some of the best hiking in Alabama, and we happen to believe that fall hikes are the best hikes. These trails are so unique and maintained 100% by volunteers. They were created by hikers, for hikers, so if this is your jam, please make sure you carve out some time during your stay to get outside!

Visit Hodges Winery

Hodges Winery is located a short drive east on HWY 280 in Camp Hill, AL at 30 Lee Road 71 and according to their Facebook page, they are open 7 days a week! They have a full selection of grape and muscadine wines grown from their vineyard as well as several fresh fruit wines. Our personal favorite is the Norton, so be sure to give it a try when you go for a tasting. The grounds are gorgeous as well, so it’s sure to be an afternoon well spent.

Attend an Auburn Football Game

Mistletoe Bough is close to Auburn, so a stay here in conjunction with your college football addiction (hee hee) could be the icing on your cake, the field goal to your touchdown, the 4th down conversion to your 1st down success…..you get my point. Ha! College football is a BIG deal in Alabama, so if you’re a huge fan, or just looking for a new experience, you should give it a try!
